Conditions of Participation

NOTE: Please read and familiarise yourself with the following terms & conditions of participation (“T&Cs”) before proceeding with your registration.

  1. This event (“Event”) is organised by SPH Magazines Pte Ltd (“SPHMAG”) and HiVelocity Events Pte Ltd (“HiVe”) (together, the “Organisers”) [and is only open to male and female participants aged 18 years and above as of the date of the Event].
  2. By participating in this Event, I am deemed to have understood and accepted these terms and conditions and any amendments hereto (“T&Cs”), which shall be binding on each participant. Amendments to the T&Cs will be posted on [], as well as “The Rules” as stated in the Registration page [] Breach of any of these T&Cs, or any misrepresentation of any particulars or fact provided at the time of registration for the Event may disqualify the participant, and any prizes won may be forfeited, withheld or withdrawn.
  3. The Organisers further reserve the right, without any liability on its part whatsoever, to cancel, postpone, terminate, suspend, end, stop or in any other way cease the Event at any time without prior notice. I agree that in the event of a race cancellation, my entry fee shall be non-refundable.
  4. I acknowledge that I am solely responsible for my personal possessions and athletic equipment during the Event and its related activities.
  5. I acknowledge that the Event is an extreme test of one’s physical and mental limits and carries with it the possibility of death, serious injury, and/or property damage. I acknowledge and agree that it is my responsibility to determine whether I am sufficiently fit and healthy to safely participate in the Event, and I attest and certify that I am or will be sufficiently fit and physically trained to participate in the Event which I elect to enter. Should I have any medical condition, I have sought the advice of a licensed medical doctor who has verified that I am fit and able to participate in the Event. I have no physical or medical condition which would endanger myself or others if I participate in the Event, or would interfere with my ability to safely participate in the Event.  I accept responsibility for the condition and adequacy of my competition equipment and my conduct in connection with the Event.
  6. I understand and acknowledge the dangers associated with the consumption of alcohol and/or drugs before, during and after the Event and I recognize that consumption of alcohol and/or drugs might impair my judgment and/or motor skills.  I assume full responsibility for any death, injury, loss or damage (a) associated with my consumption of alcohol and/or drugs or (b) caused by, result or arising from or related to my participation in the Event.
  7. I acknowledge and ASSUME ALL OF THE RISKS and aspects of the Event.  I acknowledge that running, crossing obstacles and other portions of the Event may be inherently dangerous and I understand that I will be participating in the Event at my own risk.  On behalf of myself, my executors, administrators, heirs, next of kin, successors and assigns, and anyone else who might sue on my behalf, I HEREBY WAIVE, RELEASE, and FOREVER DISCHARGE, the Organisers and their related corporations, sponsors of the Event, owners of the venue(s) at which the Event is held, , and all other persons or entities involved with the Event, , including the officers, directors, employees, contractors, vendors, agents and representatives of all of the abovementioned parties, , as well as the other participants of the Event(collectively, the “Released Parties”), from any and all claims, causes of action, damages, losses (including, without limitation, indirect or consequential loss), and liabilities of every kind (collectively “Claims”), for death, personal injury (including that relating to provision of first aid, medical care, medical treatment provided at the Event site or elsewhere), property damage, or loss of property, which may arise out of, result from, or relate to my participation in

I AGREE TO INDEMNIFY and HOLD HARMLESS the Released Parties from any and all expenses incurred, claims made, or liabilities assessed against them, including but not limited to legal fees and litigation expenses, arising out of or resulting from, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, my breach or failure to abide by any part of these T&Cs, my breach or failure to abide by any of Men’s Health Urbanathlon (Singapore) Rules, and my actions or inactions which cause injury or damage to any other person.
  9. I undertake to comply with all statutory requirements, duties, laws and guidelines, and the requirements of the Organizers as to access and conduct at the venue(s) and Event.
  10. I understand that if I miss the flag-off time, I will not be allowed to participate and will automatically be disqualified from the race. I must also complete the race before the cut-off time specified by the Organizers, otherwise I would be deemed disqualified. Should I be allowed to continue after the cut-off time, I realize the Organizers cannot guarantee my safety.
  11. If any provision of these Conditions shall be unlawful, void, or for any reason unenforceable, then that provision shall be deemed severable from these Conditions and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining provisions.
  12. These Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Singapore, and the parties irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Singapore courts.
  13. By participating in the Event, I agree that:(a) Any and all personal data submitted may be collected, used and/or disclosed to the Organisers and their related corporations, and their respective service providers for various purposes, including to communicate with the participant for purposes relating to the Event, to provide goods and services to the participant upon request, to send the participant marketing information on products and services offered by the Organisers and their related corporations, to send to the participant via email information on products and services offered by the Organisers and their related corporations, and such other purposes that the Organisers and their related corporations deem appropriate, or in relation to which the participant has otherwise provided the Organisers with consent;(b) The Organiser and their related corporations may collect, use, disclose and share amongst themselves and their respective service providers, the participant’s personal data, including the photographs or audio-video or other recordings of these participants (“Material”) for publicity and/or use in advertisements across all media, including, without limitation, in the publications, presentations and promotional materials on the websites of SPHMAG and its related corporations, in its original or edited format, and whether to promote the Event or otherwise without further notification, remuneration or compensation; and(c) The copyright and all other intellectual property rights in and to all Material shall vest solely and absolutely in SPHMAG without further compensation.
  14. Participants shall not without the prior written approval of the Organisers, speak to the press or any other media nor give any interviews or comments relating to the Event.
  15. The Organisers reserve the right to withdraw or alter any of the prizes offered without notice to the participants. Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable. Prizes are subject to availability and SPH has the right to substitute any prize for a comparable prize of equal or greater value to be awarded in lieu, subject to any applicable law. The Organisers shall also not be liable for any loss arising from / relating to any prize, except any liability that cannot be excluded by law (in which case that liability is limited to the minimum allowable by law). All warranty claims in regards to a prize should be directed to the applicable manufacturer. Except to the extent that they may not be excluded by law, no representations, warranties, terms or conditions that are not expressly stated in these terms and conditions apply to this Event nor in respect of the prizes, and all implied warranties are excluded, including but not limited to the implied warranties of satisfactory quality, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose of any of the prizes.
  • Each team shall comprise of a minimum of 4 runners.
  • Each team can consist of a single gender or mixed genders.
  • Complete information of all the members must be entered during registration.
  • The team leader who registers for his/her team will need to ascertain the number of runners in his/her team during registration.

How to register your team

Is GST included in the registration fee?
How will I know if my entry has been accepted?
You will receive a confirmation slip upon your successful registration. There is also the Online Entry Confirmation function that you can use to check if you have registered successfully. All you need to do is to visit the Competitor's Area page, key in your User ID and Password and select the corresponding event you have registered for.  
Do I need my confirmation slip to collect my Race Pack?
Yes, you will need to produce your printed confirmation slip together with your NRIC/Passport when you collect your Race Pack a week before the race. Race Pack Collection Day More details will be released at a later date. Click here for the template of the letter of authorisation.
Can I do a transfer or withdrawal if I choose not to participate after registration?
Withdrawals are not allowed. Contestants may transfer their place to someone else only before 19 Feb 2017. An administration fee of SGD$20.00 will be charged per transfer process. Do note that the 6-month Men’s Health digital subscription CANNOT be transferred, and the Urbanathlon tee size CANNOT be changed. Tee sizing chart can be found here. Can I make changes to my personal particulars after submitting my registration?

Why is it that I have not received my confirmation slip despite having registered and made my payment?
There could be several reasons: The email has been blocked by your mail server and/ or treated as Spam Your registration was not successful Error in your email address Please visit the Competitor's Area page to check your registration status, reconfirm your email address and resend the confirmation slip through the online tracking system. If all the above fails, please call our hotline at 6340 4204 and provide the following information: Name NRIC/ Passport No. Race category Please allow at least 3-5 working days for investigations.
Will there be a refund if the race is called off due to bad weather, etc?
There will be no refunds of fees paid in the event of a race cancellation due to conditions beyond the control of the organisers including but not limited to a haze, storm, rain, inclement seas or weather, winds, or act of terrorism or other conditions
  THE RULES   RACE FORMAT & TIMING   Based on the Free-Form Running format, all participants are to select their own routes to run to each 4 obstacle zones in a specified sequence, instead of following a fixed route. The total run distance is approximately 12km.   All 4 obstacles zones must be attempted before a participant is deemed to have completed the event. Upon entering each timed obstacle zone, the entry timing will be recorded. Once a participant completes an obstacle zone, the exit time with be noted, to derive the time taken for the obstacle zone. Only the timing for the first attempt at each obstacle zone will be recorded. The total timing of the race, from start to end point, shall be noted as well.   If a participant in his/her first attempt fails to clear any obstacle within the zone, he/she can attempt once more, after which, he/she will exit the zone at a side gate without the exit time recorded.   All participants will receive a timing shoe-tag in the race pack and are required to use it according to the directions provided in the race pack.   FLAG OFF   All participants should proceed to the start line 15 mins before their selected flag off time. The first flag-off is at 9.00am. To ensure a smooth race, participants will be flagged off in waves of 5-minute intervals within their time slot. Wave starts will be based on the line-up sequence and participants will not be assigned to any specific waves. Runners MUST be punctual, and will not be allowed to run if they miss the last wave in their flag off time slot. Participant are to complete the course in the race before the cut-off time specified by the organizer (150mins after their flag off time), otherwise they would be deemed disqualified.     OVERALL No participant will be barred from the course, disqualified from the event or moved forward on the course unless such actions are authorized by the Race Director. Race Management reserves the right to alter or close the obstacle zones at any time for logistical, weather, safety or other reasons. Race Management reserves the right to postpone or cancel the event in the case of force majeure which may include act of war, pandemic, and acts of Mother Nature which may render the course unsafe, or circumstances beyond the reasonable control of Race Management. In the event of a race cancellation due to these conditions, participants’ entry fees shall be non-refundable. Participants shall have access to basic first-aid and may continue on in the race without the risk of being disqualified from the event. Medical Personnel and the Race Director have final say with regard to a participant continuing on in the event. All participants must wear an unaltered Urbanathlon race number bib at all times during the race. Race number bibs must be worn on the front of clothing and be clearly visible throughout the event unless directed otherwise by Race Officials. Participant race number bibs are specific personal identifiers and must be worn only by the contestant to which the bib is assigned. Sale and/or unauthorised transfer of race entries/bibs is strictly prohibited and will result in the disqualification and/or banning of any individuals involved from future events. Usage of all portable media players such as iPods is not recommended during the race. Participants are to dispose of their litter (paper cups etc) within the water station areas.   RESULTS All results will be posted on the event website within 48 hours after the race. Participants’ results will be based on individual shoe-tag time. The timing of each successfully completed obstacle zone will be reflected in the results, as well as the participant’s total timing from flag-off till the participant reaches the finish line.   CERTIFICATE Personalised e-certificates will be mailed to each participant by 31 March 2017. The timing of each successfully completed obstacle zone will be reflected in the e-certificate, as well as the participant’s total timing.   AWARDS Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the Overall winner and 4 Individual Obstacle Zone winners. A leaderboard can be viewed at the Race Village with real-time results updates during race day. Winners will be unveiled and contacted at the end of race day, for prize presentation and interview on the following day.   These Rules may be updated regularly and are subject to change. It is highly recommended that you check back regularly, and especially the day before the race for final confirmation.
